Respiratory Therapists support the patients who have breathing difficulty, when the lungs are not functioning normally from any kind of diseases in lungs or any other organs by using various types of artificial / mechanical Ventilation. Their patients range from premature infants with undeveloped lungs to elderly patients who have diseased lungs. They also provide emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, stroke, drowning, or shock.
Respiratory therapy is practiced under medical direction. They could work in pulmonary function labs, sleep labs and ICUs. Respiratory therapists are versatile members of the health care delivery system.

Respiratory therapy is an exciting branch of allied health dedicated to application of technology in diagnosis and treatment of various cardio-pulmonary diseases.
Respiratory therapists have huge opportunities to work with Intensive Care doctors, Anaesthetists, Pulmonologists and Cardiologists to aid patients with various types of illness like asthma, chronic obstructive airway diseases, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiac failure, intersitial lung disease, non-invasive ventilation and home oxygenations to name a few. Job opportunities are enormous in Intensive care units, emergency and Trauma units, Ambulance services, and sleep labs. The health care system needs huge number of respiratory therapists across the globe.
