Overview

This radiotherapy technology course deals about the medical use of ionizing radiation, as a part of cancer treatment, to kill the tumour cells and spare the normal tissues. High-energy x-rays and gamma rays generated from sophisticated equipment such as Medical Linear Accelerators, Telecobalt and High dose Brachytherapy. Recent advanced machines are used to treat cancer patients by various radiotherapy techniques such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Brachytherapy and many other special techniques. This course also facilitates invaluable practical experience which includes hands-on use of the radiotherapy equipment mentioned above.

Career Prospects

Cancer medicine is such a rewarding field to work. Recent advacnes in Cancer means we are moving ever closer to cure rather then disease control. One of the important aspects of such progress in Cancer therapy towards cure is Radiatherapy Technology. Radiation Therapy is a targeted way of using ionizing radiation to attack the cancer cells thereby stopping their growth. Such therapy can be used on its own, before surgery or along with chemotherapy either to limi the progression of cancer or curing cancer. During this programme, the students learn about various types of Cancer, investigations for cancer and Radiotherapy Techniques for treatment of cancer.

After the successful completion of the course, there is huge scope for the candidate to apply for jobs in Cancer specialty Hospitals, Multi-specialty / super specialty Hospitals in Private as well as government sectors. Experienced radiotherapy technician can also get opportunities in the hospitals / specialty health centers in abroad.
